Vispring Luxury Beds in Aspen

Hand-built in England · Delivered to Aspen, Colorado

Aspen sits at 7,908 feet, and that single number changes what a bed has to do. Air this thin carries very little moisture. Your lungs humidify every breath you take through the night, which is why so many people wake in Aspen with a dry throat and the sense of having slept without quite resting. A mattress built from petrochemical foam traps heat and returns none of that moisture. One built from fleece wool, horsetail hair and cotton behaves differently, because those fibres move both heat and humidity instead of holding them.

The Aspen Pattern

Aspen households tend to be physical ones. Ski days start early and end sore, summers fill with trail running, cycling and altitude that punishes anyone who has not slept properly. Recovery is not an abstract wellness idea here, it is the difference between a good season and an injured one. That is the practical argument for a hand-nested pocket spring unit: support that answers the body point by point, so the hips and shoulders of someone who spent six hours on Highland Bowl are not fighting the bed all night.

Specifying for a Aspen Bedroom

The Aspen interior has moved a long way from the log-and-antler idiom. Contemporary Aspen work runs to plastered walls, pale oak, glass that opens to the mountain, and a deliberate restraint in the furniture. A Vispring divan suits that vocabulary because it does not announce itself. Upholstered in a natural cloth and finished with a low headboard, it reads as part of the architecture. For the older West End Victorians, where bedrooms are smaller and ceilings lower, a shallow divan holds the proportions of the room.

Climate, Air and the Bed

Two conditions define sleeping in Aspen. The first is dryness, addressed above. The second is the temperature swing: a bedroom that was warm at ten at night can be genuinely cold by four in the morning, and a house that runs its heat hard for eight months of the year swings further still. British fleece wool is hygroscopic, meaning it takes up moisture from the air and releases it again as conditions change, and it insulates in both directions. It is the reason a wool-filled bed feels temperate at both ends of an Aspen night.

No Foam, No Flame Retardants

The material list is short and it is the whole argument. Calico-pocketed steel springs, British fleece wool, horsetail hair, cotton, and cashmere or silk higher up the range. No foam, no adhesive-heavy laminates, and no added flame retardant chemistry, because wool resists flame on its own and the bed passes on that basis.

Plymouth, England

The pocket spring was patented in 1901 and Vispring has built beds around it ever since, by hand, in Plymouth. A craftsperson sews each spring into its own calico pocket and ties it to its neighbours, which is slow, expensive and the reason the perimeter of the bed supports weight as reliably as the middle.

Delivering to Aspen

We deliver to Aspen, Snowmass and the Roaring Fork Valley regularly, and the delivery conversation matters more here than almost anywhere. Older West End houses have narrow stairs and tight landings. Newer builds on Red Mountain often have generous access but long private drives that complicate a large vehicle. We survey the route before a large or custom size is confirmed, because a hand-side-stitched mattress does not bend to get around a corner.

Custom sizes, delivered to Aspen

A bed that almost fits is worth correcting. Vispring makes any dimension to 100 inches by 100 inches, and the custom mattress and beds programme lists them all alongside the floor space each requires.

Questions from Aspen

Yes, regularly, along with Snowmass, Woody Creek, Basalt and Carbondale. Aspen is about four hours from the Denver showroom, so deliveries are scheduled rather than next day. For anything above a standard King we survey the route first, because West End Victorians have narrow stairs and a hand-side-stitched mattress cannot be flexed around a landing.

It changes the filling more than the springs. At 7,908 feet the air holds very little moisture and your body loses water all night simply breathing. Wool is hygroscopic, so it takes up and releases moisture as the room changes, and horsetail hair keeps air moving through the mattress. Foam does neither, which is why it sleeps hot and clammy at altitude.

It argues for natural fillings. A foam mattress in a house closed up for six weeks develops a stale smell that takes days to clear. Certified Sleep, which ranks beds by toxicity, recorded no smell at all from Vispring. A wool and horsehair bed airs out in hours rather than days.

Visit the Showroom

You cannot judge a bed from a photograph or a specification sheet. Our showroom is at 2731 East First Avenue in Cherry Creek North, about four hours west of the Denver showroom, and the useful visit takes about an hour. Lie on three tensions, not one. Most people are surprised by which one their body chooses.
